Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before stepping on the mats for the first time.

What should I expect from my first class?

Arrive 15 minutes early so we can show you around. Your first class starts with a warm-up, then basic movements and positions. You will not be thrown in to spar on day one. Coach Ícaro introduces you to the fundamentals at your own pace.

What do I need to bring to class?

Just a water bottle and comfortable athletic wear. If you have a gi, bring it. If not, we have loaner gis available. No special gear needed for your first class.

What is the gym etiquette?

We ask everyone to arrive on time, bow when entering and leaving the mat, keep nails trimmed short, and train with respect for your partner. No shoes on the mat. If you are sick, please stay home.

Do I need experience to start?

No experience needed at all. Most students who walk through the door have never trained before. Classes are structured so beginners learn fundamentals at their own pace alongside more experienced training partners.

What ages do you teach?

Kids BJJ is for ages 4-9, Teens BJJ is for ages 9-16, and Adult BJJ (Gi and No-Gi) is open to all adult skill levels, beginner through advanced.
