Growth Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu opened in Southport in 2024. It was built around one idea: every student deserves to be coached properly, whatever their age, size or experience.

Ícaro Nauã Sandes

Founder and head coach. Brazilian black belt.

Ícaro started jiu-jitsu in Brazil in 2010. He moved to Australia in 2018 and taught at UFC Gym Ashmore and The Fight Centre Brisbane, and helped run kids classes on the Southside. In 2023 he went back to Brazil to receive his black belt from the same teacher who gave him his first lesson.

“I want every student to grow at their own pace. That means teaching clearly, building a strong base and keeping a room where people feel comfortable asking questions.”

In his words

Why Growth.

“At Growth, I want every student to find the guidance to grow at their own pace.”

“My job is to teach with clarity, build a strong technical base and keep a room where people feel at ease to learn and to ask questions. I have taught kids taking their very first class, adults starting from zero and students with years of experience. Each of them needs something different, and small classes let me give it to them.”
