Why train here

What you get on the mat.

Real technique

Every class has a clear plan: fundamentals, technique, drilling and live training, adapted to your level.

Fitness that sticks

Jiu-jitsu is hard work that never feels like a workout. You get fitter without counting reps.

Self-defence that works

Learn to control someone bigger and stronger with leverage and position instead of size.

A good room

A small, friendly group where people help each other improve and nobody has an ego to protect.

Gi and No-Gi

Two ways to train.

Gi is the traditional uniform. You can grip the jacket and pants, so it is a little slower and very technical, which makes it a great place to build your base.

No-Gi is trained in a rashguard and shorts. It is faster, closer to wrestling and a great complement to the gi.

Most students train both. Monday, Wednesday and Friday are No-Gi, Tuesday and Thursday are Gi, morning and evening. Tuesday morning also covers judo throws.

Gi or No-Gi, which first?

FAQ

Before your first class

Something else on your mind? Text Ícaro on 0450 600 191.

Do I need to be fit before I start?

No. You get fitter by training, not the other way around. Every class starts with a warm-up and you set your own pace.

I've never trained. Which class should I book?

Any adult class. They are all levels, and most beginners start at 5:30 PM after work. If mornings suit you better, come at 6 AM. Ícaro will look after you either way.

What should I wear to my first class?

Comfortable sports clothes without zips or pockets, like a t-shirt or rashguard with shorts or leggings. If you are trying a Gi class, we can lend you a gi.

What is the difference between Gi and No-Gi?

Gi classes use the traditional jiu-jitsu uniform, which you can grip to control your partner. No-Gi is trained in a rashguard and shorts, so it is a little faster and closer to wrestling. Most students enjoy both.

What is the Saturday open mat?

Saturday from 8:00 to 9:00 AM. Open training time to roll and drill what you learnt during the week.

Is jiu-jitsu safe?

Classes are supervised and technique always comes first. You can tap at any moment to stop, and nobody spars on their first day.
